The city has hosted the celebration at Auditorium Shores since 2010, with free live music, food, a family-friendly atmosphere and fireworks.

And in 2025, the city was welcoming 2026 with one of its biggest lineups yet.

The 2025 celebration took place Wednesday, December 31, at Auditorium Shores.

Gates opened at 7 p.m.

The event was free.

That’s a pretty good New Year’s Eve for $0.

THE HEAD AND THE HEART

The Head and the Heart headlined Austin’s New Year’s celebration as the city welcomed 2026.

One of the newer additions in 2025 was a drone show beginning at 11:45 p.m.

The drones ran for approximately ten minutes before the final countdown.

Then came the fireworks.

So the final fifteen minutes of the night were basically:

That’s a pretty good way to end the year.

THE BEST PART: IT’S FREE

No $100 cover.

No $200 VIP ticket.

No bottle-service minimum.

The city provided free CapMetro rides after 5 p.m. on December 31, 2025, with rail service extended until 2:30 a.m. on January 1.

If you live nearby, biking is a great way to get downtown.

You don’t have to worry about parking.

And you don’t have to sit in post-fireworks traffic.

Just remember to bring a light.

RIDESHARE

If you’re drinking, rideshare.

Simple.

But don’t wait until exactly midnight to request a car.

Thousands of people will be doing the same thing.
